One Rainy Day in Baguio City

After days of relentless rain and a near-flooding experience, I was thrilled to finally step outside and meet someone. The weather had improved, and the rain was no longer pouring down heavily. It had been raining since I arrived in Baguio City, and even had to evacuate during the height of Typhoon Egay (Doksuri). The water had risen to the first floor of my uncle's house, where we were staying. Although we lived on the second floor and were assured the water wouldn't rise any higher, we didn’t want to take any risks. We decided to leave and spend the night at the Baguio Palace Hotel.

I met up with my cousin for a late lunch. I really wanted to go to GoodTaste Restaurant on Otek Street, but the waiting line for a table was far too long. So, we decided to go next door to Sizzling Plate instead. For those unfamiliar, GoodTaste Restaurant is one of the most recommended restaurants in Baguio City. It's known for having long queues, especially during peak hours. The restaurant has two branches—one on Otek Street and another on Lapu-Lapu Street.

We both ordered the Australian Porterhouse Steak, which came with java rice, fries, and beans, for 394 PHP each. We asked for our steaks to be cooked medium-well, but unfortunately, they turned out tough and chewy. It was like fighting with the meat while slicing it. It was disappointing that the steak didn’t live up to our expectations, though it's possible we just picked the wrong dish. Next time we visit Sizzling Plate, we’ll definitely try something different.

After lunch, we headed to Café by The Ruins for coffee and chit-chat. We ordered the Rizal Tsokolate (150 PHP), Ernie's Camote (Sweet Potato) Bread with Herbed Cheese (110 PHP), Leche flan (80 PHP) and Ginataang Mais (Coconut Rice Pudding with Corn) (140 PHP). The total came to 693 PHP, including VAT. We both agreed that the Ernie's Camote Bread with Herbed Cheese was superb. You absolutely have to try it! It won’t disappoint!

Taking advantage of the light rain, we  took a leisurely stroll around Burnham Park before heading home. It was heartwarming to see so many people out enjoying the park, with some even boating despite the weather.
