Exploring the Charms of 1 Night 2 Days Season 3: A Perfect Korean Variety Show Recommendation

1 Night 2 Days Season 3: A Fun Korean Variety Show

Watching Korean variety shows has been my favorite pastime, and I have been a fan of 1박 2일– 1 Night 2 Days Season 3 for a long time. I always look forward to Mondays because the subbed episode is released. The show sometimes serves as my enjoyment and comfort. Kim Joo Hyuk, Cha Tae Hyun, Kim Junho, Kim Jongmin, Deffcon, Yoon Si Yoon, and Jung Joon Young never fail to entertain. They let you on a roller coaster of emotions while watching. You laugh when they laugh, cry when they cry, sad when they’re sad, annoyed when they are annoyed, and feel ecstatic whenever they win games, etc. The members have great chemistry, but they didn’t start that way. During the first episodes, you could see and feel the awkwardness. Cha Tae Hyun himself said during Happy Together’s 1n2d Special that they thought they were a mismatch. Another factor that makes the show more fun is the cast's bond with the staff. The PDs and staff members are also funny. There are many memorable moments between the cast and the staff. Remember that time when they prank PD Hoojin? It was so much fun!

The Members

Cha Tae Hyun

He seems to be the most dependable member, not just on the show but also in their private lives. It seems that the members look up to him, and I remember reading somewhere that it’s the case. His reactions make the show more interesting. His laugh is very contagious.

Kim Jongmin

Some refer to Jongmin as the root or the grandfather since he has been on the show since it aired in 2007. He went to his military service and came back after finishing it. Cha Tae Hyun teased him about crying a lot at the end of season 3. His character on the show is Babo Jongmin. He is often referred to as the fool and unlucky one.

Kim Junho

Juno is the oldest hyung but doesn't act like one. It was revealed that he wasn’t meant to be a member of the show. His friend backed out, so when he was approached to become a part of the show, he gladly accepted. The members love to tease him a lot, and he responds well. He never fails to bring laughs to the members, staff, and viewers. He also loves taking his clothes off during the show, which brings more laughter.

Jung Joon Young

Joon Young is nicknamed "the lucky one". He is known for his 4D character(weird or eccentric personality) or his torainess ( craziness). He never fails to entertain and amaze the viewers with his luck, antics, wit, and humor. He now appears to have a softer side. He didn't have many bromance moments with the members before. He is touchy and clingy these days, especially with Dong Gu. I also appreciate his carefree approach. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by any negative elements.

Deffcon

When the show was just starting, I wasn't fond of him. He was too loud and felt like he was trying hard to be the lead. But, as the show progressed and the members established more rapport, he found his character. The members love to tease him about having never been in a relationship and never kissed a girl. Junho seems to get on his nerves whenever he teases him, but it's all in good fun.

Yoon Shi Yoon

He is fondly called Dong Gu in the show, and he has been on a roll lately. I love his bromance with Joon Young and Junho. At first, he was a bit hard to watch. He didn’t seem to fit with the humor of the other members. During his second episode (Island Cruise Trip in Mokpo), he seemed to have relaxed and joined in the fun. He even connived with Joon Young to prank Jongmin and Junho. Nowadays, there’s no trace of awkwardness, just pure fun, and friendship.

Partners

JJY and Kim Jongmin

This started during Han Hyo Joo episode. Hyo Joo was tasked to make the members’ heart rates go high. When it was Jongmin’s turn, his heart rate decreased when Hyo Joo made her move. They found it strange so they had Joonyoung do it. Jongmin’s heart rate suddenly increased when Joonyoung held his hand to apply lotion. They all burst out laughing right after. This gave birth to MinYoung couple. Since then, the members, staff, and even JJY have loved teasing Jongmin.

JJY and Kim Joo Hyuk

I still remember in the early episodes how awkward Joo Hyuk and Joon Young were. I recall them looking so uncomfortable throughout that car ride they shared. They had a conversation, but an awkward Q and A. I remember Joon Young asking KJH if he had a girlfriend to which he replied that he did not, and telling that he was too old to introduce him to his friends. Gutaeng hyung didn’t know how to react to JJJY’s torainess (craziness). But as the episodes go by, they developed a lovely bond, a cute bromance. Gone was the awkward convo and silence, just constant teasing and laughing. They got closer.

Sad moments

When Junho was put in a trance, he revealed his true feelings about the things he was going through at that time. It was so sad that even the members couldn’t help but shed tears. Junho, during that time, was going through a rough time. The company he co-manages went bankrupt, and the co-CEO fled with the money.

Like everyone else, I was shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Kim Joo Hyuk. When he joined 1N2D, I was clueless about who he was, but I became a fan. I found out he was an actor, a fine one. I haven’t watched any of his movies or dramas, only snippets from YouTube, but I have read some write-ups that say he is one of the finest actors in Korea. I liked his chemistry with the entire cast, especially his relationship with Jung Joon Young. It breaks my heart knowing JJY didn’t know that his Gutaeng hyung passed away while he was out there in the Cook Islands filming for SBS's Law of the Jungle. LoTJ staff, as well as C9 Entertainment (JJY management company), said they tried their best to keep in touch with him but to no avail since the communication was down in the area. According to reports, the com-sats were destroyed by fire and would take three weeks to be repaired.
